Fibromyalgia is a musculoskeletal disorder which is characterized by pain and followed by fatigue, sleep issues, memory issues, and mood swings, and changes. The researcher has said that fibromyalgia can increase the painful sensations which are sent between the brain and the spinal cord. The symptoms of fibromyalgia often begin after an event such as a traumatic one or maybe psychological stress. But in some cases, the symptoms may trigger without the presence of any event or so because it has become chronic in nature.

Researchers have also said that women are more likely to develop this as compared to men. People who have fibromyalgia may also have tension headaches, irritable bowel syndrome, depression, and anxiety over time.

There is no treatment for fibromyalgia and there is no cure also but this can be controlled by some medications, exercises, and some relaxation techniques. Some methods of stress reduction may also help.

Fibromyalgia is basically a chronic condition that can cause pain in muscles and bones, it has some areas of tenderness, there are general fatigue and sleep disturbances which are followed by cognitive disturbances as well. There is no particular test that can confirm this condition and hence this is difficult to be diagnosed by the health care provider. Earlier this was put under the category of mental problems. Now it is well understood.

Some symptoms of fibromyalgia are:

There are some primary symptoms of fibromyalgia:

  1. There is widespread pain and aches which are dull in their nature. They are consistent and last for three months or more. The pain occurs on both sides of the body and it should be above and below the waist.

  2. There is a fatigue present in fibromyalgia. The person with this often wakes up tired with disrupted sleeping patterns. Some people with this problem also have some sleep disorders like restless leg syndrome and sleep apnea.
  3. The person with fibromyalgia has difficulty concentrating on tasks that require some mental efforts, he/she cannot pay attention to things easily and the ability to focus is impaired. These symptoms are often referred to as fibro frogs.

Fibromyalgia co-occurs with certain other conditions. They are:

  1. Irritable bowel syndrome
  2. Chronic fatigue syndrome
  3. Migraine and other types of headaches
  4. Interstitial cystitis or painful bladder syndrome
  5. Temporomandibular joint disorders
  6. Anxiety
  7. Depression
  8. Postural tachycardia syndrome

Fibromyalgia should be treated as soon as it is diagnosed otherwise it may interfere with the normal functioning of the body and with the daily activities and performances at home and job.
